My reception on my mobile GPS always gets a signal. I can't believe that my mobile GPS would have more grunt than my fish finders gps.

Do NOT confuse your phone with a dedicated GPS unit.

Yes the phone (IPad etc) has GPS for Navionics, and vehicle navigation, location services etc.

But on top of the GPS, they also use the cellular network, wifi and Bluetooth, to triangulate the position. Hence why they will give you a location even inside a multi-storey building where GPS will not work.

Thats good. I should have clarified it.

Do you have an in car GPS unit as well?

They usually have a configure option where they can show you the

satellites that they can see. Well my TomTom does.

Althought it is sounding a bit more like an issue with your boat one ;-(

I have a Lowrance HDS 7 Gen 2 Touch as well and have not had any problems fishing Botany Bay. I put in at Oatley Bay, not Foreshaw Rd but fish all over the bay and have no issues with GPS signals. Mine is mounted on the dash of a Coastrunner 490. I hope Lowrance sort your issues out for you, cheers.
