VViCKiD
Hi guys, I've got a lowrance HDS 7 touch and have noticed that in certain areas its hard to get reception on it. Eg. Botany Bay Foreshore rd boat ramp. Has any one had this problem or know how to fix it ? Cheers
MV Sunray
I'm not sure if this applies to you but when I bought mine I was told some hard tops/windscreens etc can interfere with the signal? You can buy a gps extension aerial however.
VViCKiD
I removed mine and put it out in clear site of the sky.. I find it very odd that some areas pick up a signal while others don't For example, it's fine in my drive way
MV Sunray
Sounds like it could be a warranty job?
njsconst
I have a hds8 installed in the dashboard. Never had any issues with gps signal. I regularly use the boat ramo at foreshore drive and never lost the signal. Sounds like there maybe a issue with your unit.

antonywardle
Whats the reception like in the same place on your mobile? Assuming you have a smart phone with a GPS receiver in it
VViCKiD
My reception on my mobile GPS always gets a signal. I can't believe that my mobile GPS would have more grunt than my fish finders gps.

Do NOT confuse your phone with a dedicated GPS unit. Yes the phone (IPad etc) has GPS for Navionics, and vehicle navigation, location services etc. But on top of the GPS, they also use the cellular network, wifi and Bluetooth, to triangulate the position. Hence why they will give you a location even inside a multi-storey building where GPS will not work. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
VViCKiD
That is true too Ian, but on my brothers phone(Samsung) there's an app where u can see all the satellites above. His phone was able to detect about 12 satellites while my fish finder was stuck searching
antonywardle
Thats good. I should have clarified it. Do you have an in car GPS unit as well? They usually have a configure option where they can show you the satellites that they can see. Well my TomTom does. Althought it is sounding a bit more like an issue with your boat one ;-(
VViCKiD
I checked the settings. It was on wgs84 and waas was switched off .. I believe that's the correct settings. I've sent it into lowrance. Hopefully they find the problem
brad_tate
I have a Lowrance HDS 7 Gen 2 Touch as well and have not had any problems fishing Botany Bay. I put in at Oatley Bay, not Foreshaw Rd but fish all over the bay and have no issues with GPS signals. Mine is mounted on the dash of a Coastrunner 490. I hope Lowrance sort your issues out for you, cheers. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
