Name the type/size of boat you fish from

I don't know whether I am alone in this but when reading posts describing successful (or otherwise)fishing trips I always like to know what type/size boat the writer was fishing from.

My mate Salty Dog (Steve) is interested in getting a bigger boat and I know that it would help him if he got info from other Raiders. Sometimes pics show part of a boat and you think, hey that looks good and would like more info but not enough detail in the post.

So what do you all reckon, would you like to see some more info posted on the type/size of boat that Raiders fished out of in their Post?

After all, we see plenty of information re the type of gear used, and very helpful that is.

Cheers all

Paikea

[Paikea, I think it's a good idea and though my boat probably isn't relevant to most Fishraiders, it's ideal for my purposes. It's a 3.45 m Allycraft with a 15hp Yamaha 2 stroke and is ideal for fishing the inland rivers and dams as well as estuaries at the coast. It's very manoeverable and I can unload /load on my own in a few minutes. Hope to see what others are using in their quest to enjoy their fishing experience.Big Neil. attachment=87570:DSCF2130.JPG]

It's a great idea Paikea. Being able to link a boat to a fisho and story.

What may be a different idea is if we could link stuff like this to our profile.

If I like a post I frequently look at the posters profile to understand a little more about them.

I'll raise a separate post about what I'm looking for ( probably the bloody impossible ;) ) and advice on sutible models.

All that said I I'll include a pic in my reports but here's my current ride.

5.2 M ally half cabin. 70hp Evinrude.

Im with Neil,my requirements were as above plus providing a little bit more shelter for the young ones and fitting in the garage for storage.

Keeping in mind I solely fish estuaries and bays and baitfish 99% of the time on the drift or anchor for your basic table fish.

My little boat does what I need quite well.post-20199-0-24139600-1420882749_thumb.jpg

I like what Paikeas suggesting in that when we report on a days fishing (where we have traveled and what we have caught, including what boat make, model & size we were using) I think there are plenty of us raiders that could benefit from simple information such as this which can help to grow confidence and even inspire some of us to go that little bit further.

I also think small stats such as motor size, fuel burned and distance covered would be very helpful.

Cheers,

Tim

To all respondents. This is a good topic and well worth consideration by Fishraider members. The main problem is that topics are posted and subsequently superceded before most members get to see them. Thanks Going Fishing for the info on Members boats...I'm going to check that out now. Neil.

The problem with the members boats section ( and I'm not knocking it. I enjoy seeing people's new toys) is you may have to scroll back through dozens of pages on the off chance there is a post. Even then you are guessing if it is still current.

My first post was along the lines suggested by Tim above. That way we get quick and relevant details at the time that we are looking at a post that interests us.

I have looked at the members boat section before, very comprehensive and a good read but, as Steve mentions a bit hard to get to a particular boat and you have to leave the Post that you are looking at (and want boat info for)

I still like the original idea as better described by Tim. Maybe not all reports need to be as comprehensive but the size/make/model of boat would be of interest to most members I think.

Continuing food for thought?

Cheers

I recently purchased a new 5.7 Stacer bow rider from Huey. I was going to wait a bit before I reported so I could include some more thoughts and info. Very happy with the boat and the quality advice and experience from Huett marine atm.

Just to add a twist to your thread Paikea I think you ( maybe somebody else) posted some time ago a pic of your old rig from maybe the 70's. I'd love to see more pics looking back in time.

Hi Weist, I will try to scan pics of all of the boats that I have owned over the past 60 years and post them.

The range is; Belly tank from a flying boat, 13.5 Ft home built Hartley "Spearfish" ply runabout,17 Ft Hartley Ply cabin boat, Savage Escort, 21 Ft Hayden trawler, 26 Ft Savage Fly bridge Game Boat , 10 M Seafarer Fly bridge Game Boat, 8 FT rubber duckie, Kevlacat 5.2 M Sports, 6.5 M Aussie Whaler, Pelican two man canoe with outrigger and electric motor, 3,6 M Tinnie (given to son in law Simon), Seafarer Viking, 3.6 M Little Gem,(my river and lake boat down the coast, weighs only 49 KG) 5.2 M Trailcraft Pro-Fish Centre Console, 5.65 Tournament (current boat)

Showed the pics to Steve this morning, he liked my Kevlacat 5.2 Sports. Lovely boat but too big to handle one up. I ended up putting it in a marina pen but that was too expensive and not enough use to justify it sitting there.

Cheers
