adamski Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Hey Raiders! Got back to Sydney last weekend after Christmas and New Year's in Scotland and I've gotta say- all I've wanted to do over the last 3 or 4 weeks is soak up some of the lovely sunshine that you guys do so well over here and, of course, wet a line. Today, after a busy first week back working at a new school and an even busier weekend of bed shopping, I was finally given a pass (and a lift) from the better half. To save her from having to drive round to Double Bay or Rose Bay, I got her to drop me off at Rushcutter's instead. I'd never tried there but the two bays further round have produced fairly consistently, so I figured it was worth a shot. There seemed to be heaps of fish about- little bream, jackets, whiting, luderick, rays, mullet, later a few crabs wandering about too- but only the pickers seemed interested in my plastics today, and boy did they have a voracious appetite. Even my Zmans didn't survive, it was literally like having a school of pirahnas in the water. I moved about along the sea wall, but after every few casts it was the same- must have gone through about $20-30's worth of SPs in the one session. Eventually I managed a tiny pinkie (first fish of 2015, I'd hoped it might be a little bigger) and dropped a couple more, but all in all it was a pretty misersable session. On hindsight, I guess I maybe could have stuck on larger lure profiles on a stronger leader and bottom bashed, but I think I only had a couple of bigger wrigglers in my SP wallet. Girlfriend goes away on business next week, so it'll be a stock up, back to public transport and double weekend sessions to get back into the swing of things. Thanks for reading and next time I hope to have a few fish!
Witha Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Good to see you back mate! Hope the trip home was relaxing! Pesky jackets most likely if zmans are getting shredded. Need to catch up for a session soon!
snatcher Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Recall getting some plastics shredded by chinaman leatherjackets at Fairlight once Was forced to switch to metal lures !!! John
SgtBundy Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 I had chopper tailor do that to me recently - the only things they would touch were bloodworm wrigglers or nuclear chicken and I went though an entire packet of chopped in half plastics. Put on a blade, hardbody or metal and they would only follow it or ignore it.
Paikea Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Like your post, a mixture of glad and sad observations. Always like posts that go beyond fishing and describe other issues (bed & why Rushcutters's bay etc) makes for interesting reading. Thanks for sharing Cheers Paikea
fiveflies Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Great to have you back and fishing again. Girlfriend's car much better than the old public transport!! Beggars can't be choosers when you're land based and you've always had great persistence, so there will no doubt be some fish soon.
