finin Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Gday all, lovelly day to be on the water. Harbour was pretty calm this morning, quite a few boats around and counted 13 boats at the port wedding cake at 630ish, just laughed and kept going. Little bit of swell entering the harbour once you headed past sow and pigs. Left the pearly gates and headed into a lovelly 2M sse swell, a bit disgraceful on the way out but once clear swell sorta settled. Nice long period but gradually started to drop as the day wore on. Wind from the south around 10knots but swung se at around 1100am. Water varied today in both colour and temp. Patches of green and patches of blue mixed in with temps of 21.3 up to 23.5. Current bugger all was the wind that kept us going. Mucked around a bit out the front and found all sorts. Sat in 45M and played with, snapper, mowies, blue spot and marble flatties, pike, goat fish, pig fish & bakers galore. Absolute prime bait were peeled hawkesburies and pilly tails. Fish extremely hungry and all smashed baits. Fish very active on the way up. Anyway thats it really, heres my dinner anyway
NaClH2OK9 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Nice write and nice result finin. Thanks for the details.
mike2153 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Nice!!! Good looking feed there! I need someone to give me some tips on bottom bashing I only do it once in a blue moon but when I do I hardly get a bloody keeper! I can catch squid, kings, mahi and other pelagics bit when it comes to have a bash I'm horrible!
finin Posted February 1, 2015 Author Posted February 1, 2015 (edited) bessell1955, m8 depends on what you regard as excessive and what your boat can handle. Period between was about 10 secs. As usual always wishy washy out the front until you clear all the reverb from the cliffs. There were bigger swells in some sets but not enough to worry about. Mike just pm me and ill try and help out. Edited February 1, 2015 by finin
NaClH2OK9 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 What lead and line. Weight were you using finin? Current seemed pretty strong today
finin Posted February 1, 2015 Author Posted February 1, 2015 NaCIH20K9, same as always, 30pd braid with 5m of 25pd leader onto a clip. Then on goes a 2 hook twisted dropper. Figure 8 loop down to arm length first dropper, another arm length to second dropper, another arm length to another figure 8 loop also at 25pound. Only use a 12oz sinker, may lighten to 6 or 8 oz depending on current. Reel is a Shimano tekota 500 on a custom rod just over a metre long.
fragmeister Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Good report and not a bad feed. I had breakfast and a swim at Neilson Park. I counted 12 at the western wedding cakes, 6 at the eastern wedding cakes, 3 at the sticks and 5 at the yellow marker. This is why I fish on week days! Cheers Jim
Tyr2 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Mike 2153 First of all is your gear , try to fish as light as possible , I'm using my micro jigging rod spooled with 20 kg braid with 1.5mtrs 30kg leader, always start with 8oz sinker and work up if you can't hold bottom , when you drop to bottom and depending on current you really have to stay in touch with the bottom , this will mean letting out huge amounts of line to stay there , the alternative is using 1 lb sinkers (hard work) On getting bites , I find that giving line instead of striking will get you more fish , using circle hooks lets the fish hook themselves but once hooked you need to set the hook and keep the pressure on at all times. My bait of choice has to be Hawksbury Prawns , 1 kg bag kept on ice so they are always fresh on the hook , worst thing to do is just leave bag on bait board so they cook in the sun Any ways all the best , btw I have no idea regarding surface fish, always have ago but always finish up doing the flathead drift of shame
NaClH2OK9 Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 Thanks finin. Not that different to me ( when I remember to take the bloody lead tub! . )
