Fusion sonic Hub & Simrad NSS Evo2 Problems, help !

Hi Raiders,

I'm hoping that some out there may have experience with the fusion (lawrance or simrad branded) sonic hub?

I treated myself to one for Christmas with the intention of using my simrad NSS evo2 as the head unit / controller for it.

but when all wired up on the boat I couldn't get it to switch on. triple checked all my wiring (quite confident here, I've rewired the whole boat).

so I stripped it back out and tested on the bench

I connected positive and ignition (red and yellow) to ps (power supply) pos . and earth to ps earth - No power led (I had the Simrad plugged into the same PS which was working)

I connected the ne2000 cable between the sonic and the Simrad, no difference, I even did a network discovery on the Simrad but it found nothing.

OK it looks like ive got a DOA unit, Called Navico Tech support and explained the issue and they agreed that the next step was to ship the unit to them.

after 3 weeks a new replacement unit was sent to me.

I plugged this in on the bench to test and got exactly the same issue as before !!

I called Navico back and explained and they said they would need to raise a new case as its a new S/N but that I also needed to check the BUS diagnostics (which I tested and things look odd)

on the Simrad, settings/network/diagnostics I am getting TX errors (of 255 (which says is the threshold to shut the bus down)) and a status of BUS OFF

This is the case if I have the network backbone plugged in or not !!

It seems unlikely that 2 sonic units are doa. So I'm questioning if the navico tech is correct that they should have a power led without the head unit attached. I've got a horrible feeling that my Simrad my be the issue?

just before I go down the return path again (and weeks without my plotter so no fishing) im hoping some raiders may have experience with the above. and can answer/confirm a couple of questions as the tech in NZ just seems keen to bag the issue off to logistics and a different test department in Sydney which he wont give me details to.

Q1 - is it correct that the sonic hub should light up (green LED) with only 3 wires connected ? i.e. red yellow and black ??

Q2 - does the sonic hub HAVE to have a head unit (combo device or remote control) for it to power up ? (I obviously understand I cant control without a head unit)

Q3 - does anyone in the south Sydney area have a similar setup who would be prepared for my to bring my sonic hub to and plug into their rig to test ?

I don't want to have to send back both of my units and wait weeks for them to be returned.

Thanks

Steve

(mods, I wasn't sure if this should go in boating or workshop ?)

Just by way of an update ( and reference for those who may search in years to come) this is now working for me. I had missed that the nmea2000 network needs a powered backbone and termination ( reminds me of the old BNC network days) .

And yo do have to have it networked and the head powered up for this to work

If anyone else has issues I'm more than happy to let you plug units into my system to test.

Can't wait to blast out 'paint it black' on my maiden musical trip :)
