hi guys

getting some work done on my boat and my marine shop showed me some options for a fuel tank, instead of my crappy plastic tank,

i was offered a 40lt stainless steel tank with all the fittings and fitted in for $620, with the tank being $400. (fitting is slide the tank under my back seat and scre/bolt down.

my point/question is i had the same thing made for me (by a qualified tech through his racing shop) for my race car - all the same fautures - breather on top - sealed cap where you fill it - sump and 2 x AN fittings out the bottom and elec fuel level sensor. for $200

they look very similar and would fit perfrectly in my boat, the tank is rated for all fuel - unleaded, deisle, ethenol,

so will this be ok to use in my boat? is there a reason why i cant? is there something particually different with a "marine" fuel tank, from looking and checking specs there dosnt seem to be anything different or specific.

i have all fittings and new hoses and stuff so i am right to go.

any input would be helpfull

thanks Reese

that's a big difference in price.

I noticed that when the word Marine is added to something

the price goes up.

Maybe check that the stainless is the marine grade.

Sometimes the tank have baffles in them to stop the fuel moving around

too quickly, but you'd have the same issue in your race car.

otherwise i can't think of a reason a race tank and a boat tank

would be much different. PS I'm no mechanic!

yeah has all that in, the guy who sells them said they are essentially the same thing - his are just labled for auto, and he dosnt no marine rules -

personally structure wise if its safe for a race car its safe for a boat, and comparing to the smae thing from a marine company the specs are the same.

Breather on top of tank?

if its going to be mounted permanently filler & breather should through the gunnel & any spill from either of them should run to outside of the boat or you will have fuel leak in to your hull... NOT GOOD

when i said breather i ment like the valve on plastic containers- open close - or i can put any attatchment i want on it so a breather line could go through the gunnell - depends on how the marine shop fits it -

long as the lines are on correctly there will be no leaks at all - its sealed and tested
