big Neil
Will be heading to Greenwell Point near Nowra in 3 weeks. Does anybody have any advice on river, estuary and near offshore angling in that area? Neil.
bessell1955
Big Neil great to hear from you again. I have not been fishing there for many a year, but I spoken to some locals who told me that between the caravan park and the mudflats, there a good Flathead to be had. We were told to drift along this channel about half low tide until low tide. You throw you line towards the mud flats and slowly retrieve. I have tried this method and it was successful. The Flathead come off the flats and rest in the chanel next to the flats. Give it a try the worst that can happen is no hookups.
brad_tate
My family and I spent many a week there between 1996-2007, mainly Easter or Christmas period. We fished Berry's channel and Greenwell/Orient Point, drifting with the tide. At the time, bait fishing only. Berry's canal has flathead and the usual estuary species. Greenwell point is a little more varied with surface species from time to time, as well as Trevally and other species more common on reefs. I expect they are more prevalent now with the general warming trend. The landlocked lagoon at Shoalhaven Heads had good nipper beds which were deadly in the system. Seven mile beach also had Pippis but you are now not allowed to collect them and fish elsewhere - you can only collect and fish in the same spot. Good luck! big Neil
Cheers mate, will do. It's been quite a while since I wet a line in salt water. Should be fun using soft plastics again. Neil.
Demon
Use google to find gps marks for the Shoalhaven, and there are many, some not far from the entrance, as well as the Sir John young banks which is a large reef system that is about 12 mile out and extends down to Currarong. These gps marks put you roughly on the areas and it’s a matter of sounding around to find any interesting features. Also keep an eye on the sounder while travelling to a mark and you will find many other spots of interest.

bessell1955
How did the trip go ?
big Neil
G'day John, we managed to get quite a few flatties, though none of them were very big and a lot undersize. These were caught (mine) on soft plastics -drifting downstream and trolled hardbodies - going upstream. Wind was a problem for a few days but we managed a half day in Jervis Bay and one day out at sea. Neither of these was very fruitful. The blackfish were on but we had no gear for this type of fishing, so didn't participate. The place has a lot of potential and I'm thinking of heading down there in the Winter school hols...if you're not doing anything??? Neil.
