Sydney Harbour - Monday 9th March 2015

Hi Raiders,

Went our for an early morning fish on Monday and checked our all the regular markers.

All the them were holding rat kings and huge schools of 300mm yakkas.

Got my fair share of rats but that was about it.

Fished off Rose bay for a while and noted plenty of good sized bream around which fell for unweighted strips of fresh yakka.

After landing half a dozen of these and a few rat kings I noticed a large fan bellied leather jacket that I thought may be chance for a Raider record so I tossed a handline out for it. I landed it but if fell about 3 cm short of the record. ... I made a deal with the fish that I would let it go if it let me catch it again when it got a little bigger!

I went looking for a few squid to tempt some larger kings but instead I caught my first Tailor on a squid jig. Had a few lone frigates follow the squid jig but they were a little more selective than the 20cm tailor holed up in close to the shore line.

Found some bust ups around Rose Bay but the ferry traffic kept sending them deep before I got to them.

The weather was fantastic so I went over to Clifton Gardens for a swim and to survey the wharf fishos. There were no reports of the Bonito or Kings of the previous weeks but there were some decent trevally being caught. Most of these were caught on strip baits although I noticed a good supply of live nippers in a bucket nearby.

I ended the day with a bit of exploring around North Harbour.

Very relaxing day with a little less focus on fishing and a little more on enjoying the harbour and the weather.

Cheers

Jim

That's a great report jimmy

Thanks Stewie.

I got to Clifton this morning with my new daiwa morethan combo and christened it with a bonnie - very patchy action unfortunately

I remember fishing Clifton Gardens almost 50 years ago and it was a very productive spot then but I still remember some veterans down there even back then complaining that it wasn't like it used to be!

One day I'm going to read one of your reports with a pic of you holding a 1.5m king... You're due for one!

I certainly hope so! Its been a very long time since I caught a metre plus king or for that matter a metre plus Jew and never from a boat or in Sydney Harbour.

Doesn't discourage me although my credibility is floundering with the wife who reckons its about time Kingfish was back on the menu.

Cheers

nice work mate what did u get the kings on the markers with? and how early did u catch them did they seem to go off the bite later in the day?

cheers sydneyfisher12

Got a few on live yakkas and got a few later in the day on strip bates from a few giant yakkas I caught at wedding cakes.

Couldn't find any squid although I didn't try that hard.

They went off the bite around midday

Cheers

Jim
