Hi all,

Its been a while since i got to wet a line, but we set off saturday to the Hawkes targeting jewies and launched the boat at about 7pm.

Hit the spot with some fresh/frozen squid and some fresh yellowtail.

I managed one hookup and good run before i dropped whatevef it was within the first 20mins. Good start.

Had one or two more hookups and managed to get a big hairtail to the boat before he chomped the line and swam away.

Had about 10 more hookups on what was no doubt more hairtail before i managed to bring one into the boat, not bad, but not a jewie.

Found ourselves sitting there after the tide turned at about 11pm, all 3 of us dozing off in the darkness then bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!! wow!! my mate locked up and set the hook, and one huuuuge run some pretty agressive headshakes and ping! gone......

After hooking up to hairtail all night I'll say that was NOT a hairtail. I've never fished or caught hairtail but i found that theyre very consistant in how they strike, real slow and long pulls on the line and theyre on, where as thia was just smash grab and run like hell..the one that got away, again!

All in all, it was a good night with lots of action. No undersized pickers or pests, lots of hookups and runs. We may have found our own spot x . Also the action came in waves. 30mins on 30-45mins off, unlike the usual 20 minutes of action then nothing for the next 5 hours.

Looking at heading back this weekend with a smaller tide and target jewies again, but am a bit unsure with all this rain now.

Anyways, there it is guys, hope you enjoy the read.

Its always great being out there regardless of what you catch. Been chasing jewies for a while now with no luck.

Its just nice to head out for a flick and actually hear your reel buzz consistantly instead of pulling in undersized bream or flathead or not catch anything at all

From personal experience , if your hooking pike eel your fishing the bottom . Try and raise your baits of the bottom by about a couple of meters .
