Fab1
Hi guys, while fishing today I anchored up ,switched the sounder off, then when underway again I could not get it to switch back on. All I get is a blip when I try to turn it on and a split second flash of the screen. Any ideas what may be causing this as its performed flawlessly up until now? Maybe the units cactus? It's a Garmin 300c. Thanks guys.
abyss
G'day Fab, I don't know much about Garmin units but sometimes when you hit the on / off button multiple times, you maybe dimming the screen.
Fab1
Well just finished pulling my sounder to bits to find it in as new condition internally, used my multimeter to check for continuity/resistance between various contacts/diodes/resisters. Cleaned all contacts up with electrical contact cleaner for good measure and put back together to find it still beeps/bleeps when hitting the power button with no screen illumination present. At a guess I'm calling it a dead LCD screen.
MV Sunray
Interesting. My cousin has a "Eagle" brand sounder which does exactly as you have described. Would be cool if someone knows what's going on.

Im guessing all brands/models have their issues.
GWG
My sounder did it when it was not getting enough power to it.

Zacnoel
I had an old Hondex sounder years ago and it did the same . I rang the supplier at the time and was advised to do a hard / factory reset as the head and the transducer can stop talking to each other. Make sure you back up all of your marks you may lose them
Zacnoel
Oh and yes it worked for me . Also now that you have opened the case of your sounder be sure that it is sealed well when reassembling. As many units are internally pressurised with nitrogen gas or the like by the manufacturers to keep moisture out of the electronics Edited April 5, 2015 by Zacnoel
Horizon440
Not sure if this would apply to sounder screens but when it was in I.T (computer repairs) and laptops came in with dead/faulty screens 8 out of 10 times it was a failed back light and to diagnose this you shine a torch into the screen while the unit is powered on and flick through the buttons while monitoring the torch lit screen for changes. Cheers mark Edited April 7, 2015 by Horizon440
