KayakPat
So I started spinning for bonnies and kings and got stuck into the salmon, the bite was hot for 45min with hits, chases and fish coming fast. As the salmon cooled down i hoped to get a livie out, but there were none around. I did however pick up a 32cm bream on my small float rig. Eventually I got a gar and sent it out while I did some blackfishing. First drift and I was on, 38cm drummer. Then the live bait goes to a tailor that kindly got to my feet before chewing through the leader. So back to black fishing, 2nd drift hookup, bust off, 4lb leader letting me down lol. So on goes 10lb and again I land a 36cm drummer.... weather came in and i called it.. So salmon, bream and drummer... not what i went for but hey that's fishing. p.s. any tips on why i seem to catch more drummer than blackfish? Koalaboi
p.s. any tips on why i seem to catch more drummer than blackfish? I found some spots had blackfish on the runup and pigs on the run out...or roughly thereabouts. Doesn't really make sense to me but that's what we found and sometimes, the changeover from one species to the other was spectacularly abrupt. Rock&Beach
Mate I wish I could get out to wet a line. Every weekend the swell goes through the roof and there goes the weekend fishing off the rocks. Good luck to you and keep catching the fish and writing the stories. At least I can dream.
Guest hawkesbass
The underwater habitat on the ledge you fished could be more suited to drummer than blackfish. Drummer like caves/terrain with boulders and blackfish like a little bit more open water around the ledges
macman
Sometimes its bait size. If you are using big baits you may not get so many blackfish, but the drummer don't seem to care as much about presentation, Matt
