brad_tate
I have just fitted a new Evinrude ETEC 60 hp to my Quinnie, and the manual refers to a trailering bracket which I believe is an optional accessory. The outboard is fitted with a flip tab to support the motor when trimmed up, but it is not recommended to trailer the motor on this tab. I previously trailered my Yamaha 2 stroke 60 using this type of tab with no issues (again Yamaha recommended not to, but the informal dealer advice was that it was fine to do so). What do Raiders think? Is it worth investing in the trailering bracket or is the existing flip tab sufficient for highway trailering? Appreciate any thoughts and experience others have had. reese
My 90hp has two, one when motor is half way up and a second when fully up. The shop I brought from said to use the half way lock.. If I'm not making sense let me know I'll take pics
brad_tate
Thanks, the first sounds like the trailering bracket my manual refers to. It mustn't be a standard fitting to a 60. hucho hucho
Isn't trailering bracket designed more for the protection of transom than motor?
Testlab
Every dealer and tech I've spoken to say not to use the tab. It can snap when the motor bounces up and down. As explained to me by Suzuki (for example) the tab is to allow the tilt rams to be retracted back into the cylinders while leaving the motor raised during long term storage or if it is kept on a mooring or in the water all the time. a boat
The single bracket design engines like the one mentioned above, which on a single ram P/T/T do not retract the ram, are not the best but all I-2 I have ever sold and trailed the in built twin trailering brackets are what should be used-simple as that and surely the dealer mentioned this at pick-up? brad_tate
Thanks Huey. I didn't receive any advice about trailering from the dealer this time. I will have a chat to them as I will be seeing them soon for other reasons. It sounds like you are comfortable that for regular highway trailering the standard flip brackets are perfectly fine.
