Hi all

Took the family for our annual pilgrimage

Got to bass point around 3pm

The place was packed

Found parking on the side of the road

Took 2 rods out and rigged with pillys on float

One of my mate hooked a salmon on his first cast and saw a couple of fishos hooked on some bonito

Very good sign even though we saw at least half a dozen fishos packing up

Not much action for the first 2hrs only saw a couple of fishos catching bonito every now and then

Another mate arrived around 5pm and that's when we started catching some bonito

We landed around half a dozen bonito in the next 2hrs

My eldest son caught two bonito and he was very happy it's been a while since he caught one

Ended up taking 3 bonito home

Left around 7pm

Thanks for reading

You should have been there on the Sunday morning. Absolute chaos.

We arrived about 5:30am and despite camping being prohibited at Bass Point there were at least 8 tents set up and the occupants had been there all night .

As soon as the sun came up the madness started. People standing shoulder to shoulder casting float rigs with 4m traces. Several hooks buried into un suspecting shoulders. Virtually everything that was caught was kept. :ranting2:

We gave them a wide berth and fished further around towards the bay. The looks of shock and horror were comical when we started throwing them back. One young bloke even went and got, who we presume was, his father the express his disbelief at the nasty insane men throwing the fish back into the ocean. :1taz::icon_peace:

After 4hrs we'd had enough and called it quits.

We backed up again on Monday and honestly the place looked like a tip, discarded plastic, pieces of rope, hundreds of metres of braid and mono strewn all over the rocks, bags of pilchards lying on the rocks everywhere and worst of all, unwanted fish thrown into rock pools. :1badmood:

As soon as the sun came up the chaos of the previous day commenced yet again.

By 7am two blokes had been knocked base over apex, one landed on the edge of the shelf and lost a fair bit of bark off his shin and knee, The other one landed in the drink and lost his gear and his thongs!!!!!!! :byebye::1naughty:

It was interesting watching all these guys franticly throwing cast after cast when you could see the schools of bait fish moving around in the bay. We'd only cast when the bait fish were moving towards us. the rest of the time we sat back and watched comedy capers up on the point .

I reckon we through 1/10th of the casts of the blokes on the point with the big rods and 4m leaders and we caught just as many fish

Guest no one

Is this what was on the news this afternoon about Aussie salmon? Saw something when ordering lunch but couldn't really work out what it was... just a load of people catching fat salmon and people carrying eskys full of fish?
