chrisj1982
Hey all, Names Chris been a long time reader and land based fisho until recently when i purchased a brand new 2014 model 4.2 Quintrex Renegade. Been out a few times in the new machine and have come to the conclusion i really hate the tiller steer setup on the boat. I have searched online and am finding it hard to locate any recent info on whats needed or even if the particular model i have is able to be converted to console steer.. The motor is a 2014 Yamaha 40 Vwhtol 2 stroke tiller steer, power trim. Unfortunately due to buying on finance i really cannot sell or trade back for a CC or SC model and to be honest i am quiet happy to do the work myself as the wife and i are setting up for a camping/ fishing trip around Oz and by doing the work myself i think it would help in regards to learning more about the boat ect I am leaning towards wanting to convert to a centre console so what would be the parts i would need to do the job?? am i able to convert this motor?? whats a rough estimate on price?? Is there anything with the conversion i shouldnt do myself and pay the pro's to do? From the research i have done i know i need the following control boxshift cablethrottle cableadaptor kit which i cannot find any info on with part numbers prices ect. obviously need steering helm, wheel, steering cable. Any info would be highly appreciated, Thanks in advance
Juggs
i have the same boat with a 50 four strokeWhy do you hate the tiller ?i found i had to cut the seat pole down to almost rear deck height when using the spigot attached to the front of the back deckSolo i did find it leans to the right a little so i just fill the bait tank and move my gear to the left
Geoff
Any Yamaha dealer should be able to advise the price for the components & the cost to fit. If u have a problem locally , send me a pm & I can give u the names of a few people in Sydney. You could also call site sponser , Craig at Huett marine . They are not Yamaha dealers but i'm sure he could help u or at least point u in the right direction .. Also , assuming it is elect start , dont forget the electrics. It would also be worth considering the Yamaha gauges , from memory , they are not cheap but well worth having
Juggs
if its a tiller it has no gauges to begin with so maybe just a tacho would doControl Box $350-$500 depending onmodel2 control cables $100 each depending on lengthWiring loom $349 quintrex want $1800-$2500 for the console with a helm and cable, price varied and tbh the dealers priced acording to how much effort they wanted to go to or they just guessed it seems
daniel944
When I purchased my current motor I got a 30hp Tohatsu tiller with electric start. I was able to buy a control box and loom and it all just fitted straight in. Control and steering cables can be had very cheaply on ebay
tuffy
I converted mine to a CC about 6 years ago. 4.55 Seajay with 50hp Honda - Polyethylene console from what was then Bias Boating, but other chandlers would probably sell them, cost roughly $400, then the steering - I went hydraulic - control unit for the Honda was expensive with the wiring loom. All up I reckon it cost my about $3000, but the best money I've ever invested as the hull now performs like it should with the weight now moved forward to the centre of the boat. I can send before/after pics if you are still interested.

bessell1955
As it is a tiller steer without gauges, why would you complicate maters by adding them now. Just go along with the conversion and enjoy the new steering position.
