fragmeister
Hi Raiders, This is a follow on post from the 16th. Spent a reasonably comfortable night on the boat in Bantry bay after the wind a rain subsided. Got to sleep around 10:00 with a plan to get up again at about 3am. Slept ok aided by a little flask of sleeping medicine . Woke up a 2 and headed down to the Spit to try for a few squid. Only got one in an hour so I decided to head off to Clifton Gardens for some backup yakkas. There were bundles there so I quickly had a dozen in the tank. To cut a long story short I downrigged squid and yakkas all day for North head and all markers up to Rose Bay and often enough through some very good arches on the sounder under numerous schools of baitfish. But not a single take. I ended up dropping a bait down to see what was at a few of the markers and there were bundles of 25cm trevally. I noticed lots of boats around sow & pigs so I took a quick look... the only thing interesting there was the swarms of yakkas on the surface. I think they may have been spawning. I caught them on the GoPro but this video does not do justice to how many there were on the reef. https://vimeo.com/125221382 Spoke to a few guys on the water, they could see the same promising arches as me they had no success either. Also spoke to a couple of guys at the ramp, one had a few rats on yakkas at Long Reef and the other ( a guide) had done the same as me all day also for a donut... except he had a paying customer (ouch!) He did mention that he believed that were plenty of kings still in the harbour but he was at a loss to explain why they were off the bite... I feel much better when I know that the pros were struggling too. Pretty disappointing fishing but the two days out was great. Hope you guys have better luck over the weekend. Cheers Jim

mike2153
Hate it when it's like that mate, the fishing has been really slowly lately but I'm actually having the weekend off because I know it's slow. I haven't done that in a long time haha
