Hi All,

Got the new boat home the other day and now comes the massive task of stripping the old boat and fitting out the new. I will be spending a lot of time on getting the new boat nice and shiny and ready for next season.

I'm about to take the motor from my old boat and fit it to the new however I'm unsure what to use as a backing plate. I was thinking of using Polyethylene or Marine ply.

What would you suggest?

Also I'll be wanting to off load my old hull and the new trailer pretty quickly. The trailer should sell very easily as it's massive & in good shape. I'm thinking my old hull will be too much effort for anyone to bother with therefore stopping the sale. If it comes to it will rubbish tips take old fiberglass hulls?

Cheers

Stick the hull on eBay for $10, someone will bid and take it away!

Hull has to go with the trailer, Don't have time to muck around as I'm in the process of moving, getting the boat sorted and about to travel overseas for work. Everything has to happen at once!

PM me your address and I'll come down for a look!

Im in need of a tralier

No problem

Go for the poly plate on your transom as you'll find that even marine ply will rot eventually . Tips will charge you a fortune to get rid of . I had an old 17ft fiberglass that a customer left behind & refused to pick up (not worth repairing ) and the tip at Western Sydney wanted to Charge me $400 !!!!! I listed it on EBay for .99c & it sold for $250 ! Before you fit the Motor did you drill a couple of 1/8" test hole on the inside of your transom to make sure you have no rot ??? I've got some shocking photos of transom's ripping apart ....

I'll have to have a look at where I can source the material. I was hoping bunnings or masters would stock it. Might have to check out a few of the plastic stores around here. There's one I know that has it but they tried to rip me off an extra $200 on a $60 window cut out.

I could list it on ebay but I want it to go with the trailer which is worth $600+ in itself. The hull is easily repaireable if someone has the time.

The transom is okay as it had an old 115 sitting on it last week with no transom movement. I'll be putting a 70 on it which is a lot lighter. I don't intend for it to last me 10 years or anything. A few seasons and I'll redo the floor and transom if need doing.
