vince1312 Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Hi guys, I am looking a boat cover for my boat which is 6m long, I have got a price for custom made for $1600, however I saw some in BCF store for only $550, are they the same quality? Is any different between them? Can someone recommend a company for me?
fragmeister Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 I am about to replace an off the shelf with a custom boat cover. Mine lost its shape and its water proofing so now the cover collects water which slowing but surely leaks into the boat. I am going for a custom made one for $1500
Busy-livin Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 Bcf are good for a few months then they will become more a pain in the butt then anything
zmk1962 Posted April 29, 2015 Posted April 29, 2015 I have just had one custom made last year....my 3rd. I have a 6.35m boat and the custom cover is snug enough to tow with. It is made from waterproof marine acrilyc canvas. In my experience the good quality custom jobs last about 7-8yrs. I used a local trimmer in the Hills area - and he did a great job and I would recommend him. PM me for details if interested.
brad_tate Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I use an off the shelf trailerable covered for my boat whilst parked at home, however I find that once they are a couple of years old they shred themselves at highway speed. I've just had a custom storm cover made at a very good price by a cover maker in the Shire which I am very happy with (but haven't trailed yet, will do so in 2 weeks). I plan to keep using the OTS cover at home, but the custom one whenever we go away and whilst the boat is on the water. PM me if you want the name of the company I used. daniel944 Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Dad had a traliable cover made for his 12 foot tinnie for $400 and I had a canopy and clear sides made for my 14foot runabout for about $600, $1500 seems dear??
a boat Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Yes there will be a heap of difference vs a custom made and matched cover toy YOUR boat vs one in a box that is designed to suit a wide range of boats over a certain length range. We stock and sell the ones in box and they are good for what you pay for them-must be a very big boat for a generic cover to be $550 and if so I would expect that a custom made cover for such a large boat at $1,600 is good going.
njsconst Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 (edited) Custom all over cover. Made from UV resistant light weight canvas guaranteed for 10years. Cost me $2200, but well worth it. Make sure you use a breathable material otherwise you will get mould and mildew, not to mention it can get into your electronics killing them. The marine trimmer I used is located at Peakhurst. Captain Spanner Posted May 8, 2015 Posted May 8, 2015 We use the same trimmer as njsconst and the last cover lasted 10 years and only tore at 10 years of age when a gumtree branch went pointy end down through the back section parked in a mates yard. No damage to the boat at all. The cover has a lot of attention to detail eg reinforced carpet bits on the inside at all contact points esp. But not limited to cleats, Nav lights, grab rail, bollards, antenna mounts and fits snug.
