RNB Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Hi people... Looking at chasing some big kings and other Pelagius off the Rocks... Hitting them with stick baits & poppers as well as live baiting yakkas & squid. Wondering if any of you have... Or have used the Daiwa Catalina 6500H and can give me any reviews / reports on this reel. Had a look at the Saltiga but way too pricey...$$$...? ( around $1200 ). Is it worth spending the $800 on the Catalina or should I look at the saltiest 6500H which I'll probably be half the price. Any thoughts.............................? RNB
Houdini Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 There is a massive difference between the Catalina and the Saltist. If you can afford it get the Catalina. Look at Alan Hawks blog he rates the catalina the second best spin reel in the world behind the Saltiga. I was looking at the saltist but have changed to the Shimano Saragosa after researching
Crossfire63 Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Or you could look at the Seagate Hyper 6000 for about 1/2 the price of a Catalina and its an excellent reel. I have both and I doubt you'd need a reel with that much grunt for stopping kings
RNB Posted April 30, 2015 Author Posted April 30, 2015 Thanks Whiting... I will definitely save $$$ if I go with your option of the Seagate... Will have to go check them out Asap
Formosan Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Sold the 6500H saltist then bought a Catalina 6500H never looked back. High quality reel.
