G'day guys.

Long time lurker, first time poster...

I'm wanting a new finder for my boat, as my existing Hummingbird has given up the ghost. Firstly, I have a 4.85m half cabin runabout. Mainly fish in river entrances, bays and just out at sea if the weather is suitable. Trolling & jigging etc

My budget is up to $400, and I see that I can get a combo with a chart plotter for that kind of money...

I've narrowed down to two options:

Lowrance Elite-4 CHIRP Colour Fishfinder Combo

$399

.....

Raymarine 4.3'' Dragonfly 4 Pro Dual Channel CHIRP DownVision Sonar with Chartplotter

$369

....

Has anyone here had experience with either of these two? I'm tending towards the Raymarine, mainly to save $30 bucks, but keen to hear opinions. I'm open to other suggestions too!

I understand I will need to replace my existing transducer and re-run the cabling. Is this the sort of job I can do on my own or should I get a professional? If the latter, how much should I expect to pay for an installation?

Cheers

Hi smasher. You'll get your links pulled mate as it's against site policy. If you drop Craig from huet marine a pm he will give you the best current pricing available as he has his finger on the promotional pulse.

I'm sure you'll get opinion from users on features but cost Vs systems changes so quick.

I've always had lowrance finders & they never let me down , so I'd be going that way . Fitting up is very straight forward . You'll find the instructions very easy to follow . Give the guys at Huett Marine a call I'm sure that can organise 1 for you & install it if you get Stuck .Hope this helps ....

Out of those two my vote goes to the Raymarine Dragonfly 4 Pro-offering a combo unit with CHIRP sonar and DI with C-Map charts included. Great value for a very good little unit.
