sebcox Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Hey Lads, So ive just moved to Engadine this week down near the RNP (unfortunately no longer a few minutes from my gun bream spot). Being that bit closer to such a beautiful part of the world Im looking to make the most of it and was hoping for a bit of guidance from any fishos that know the area well. Ive had a look in the safe rock fishing section and though theres an amazing amount of info on other areas, the RNP seems a little left out. Ive fished Garie beach a handful of times and have done very well on Salmon up to 70+ and even managed to get my first and only Jewie off the beach there on a night session about 2 years back. From anyone that fishes the beaches through there, would you recommend sticking to Garie or is it worth trying out Wottamolla or some of the beaches that take a bit more of a walk to get to? Also, Ive never been real rock fishing, nor do I intend to without knowing what im doing or by myself. I know there are quite a few spots along the coastline there but I was hoping someone might be able to give me an idea of the spots worth a crack that are reasonably safe and a good place to learn. Ive researched bits and pieces, but hard to find the right stuff (alot of outdated info) but have heard Burning Palms Point is worth a crack? Im still young enough for the treks through the tracks to get to the spot, infact I see that as all part of the fun Thanks to anyone that can help out, and even anyone that might want a fishing partner down that way just shoot me through a PM. You dont need to hold my hand or tie my knots and I have my own gear haha. Im competent enough with everything, just looking to gain a bit of knowledge and make the most of a beautiful part of the world. Cheers, Seb
amkr Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I did the coastal walk from Bundeena to Otford late last year, from what I saw when we hit Burning Palms, it would be a long hard slog to get down there!
GreyNurse Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 It's an even longer, harder slog to climb back up from Burning Palms. I've fished there a few times. Wasn't worth the effort for a few bream off the beach. The rocks looked a little too risky, hence the beach fishing. As far as the rocks go, probably be a good idea to start with fairly accessible areas first. And in company. Always in company. And wear a PFD. As you get to know the place and pick up knowledge on the local hot rock spots, then venture further. Just make sure that if you fish Burning Palms or any of the spots between there and Garie, take a long a good supply of H2O, and plenty of protein to chow down on. You'll need the energy to get back!
sebcox Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 Cheers guys, yeah I had heard that the trip back up the hill can be pretty feral! Might start back on the beach at Garie and see how I go from there
pjbink Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 There is a rock spot at the northern end of Garie. It's good for salmon and other species using similar tactics to beach fishing (ie heavy sinker, long cast, pilchard bait). It's a bit wet and you will need cleats but is resonably safe in a low swell.
Speedmaster30 Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Hi all... Recently joined the forum, didn't want to start a new thread so thought i would post in this one.. I am keen on heading out VERY soon into the RNP to do some beach fishing - probably along the Garie Beach/little Garie section (starting here and will work my way down the coast). I'm guessing that the area is full of life so i am looking for some advice... i've seen a few post about the North head -not heading there as i prefer beach to rock (simply because i've only really done the beach fishing a few times). I can generally read the surf to pick out channels etc, but i'm not too sure what sort of bait to use as i've never really been out and about in OZ...any tips? I'm keen on taking 2 rods as i would like to try some plastics (never tried before) that i'll get at a store - will ask for some advice before purchasing.. Not looking to target anything specific but i will if there are any good tips on where/what? Generally prefer catch and release but will keep some for the BBQ if i managed to land a few.
