How to fish at night

hi raiders,

I need some help with fishing at night, i've tried on many occassions but usually with no luck, not even a single bite. Ive had one session where the tailor went crazy and i brought up 1 myself but other than that, every night session has been super quiet.

With the winter coming and sunset at 5pm, i feel that getting good at fishing at night would be a plus. Ive recently picked up a headlamp and some soft lumo beads, not sure if they will boost my chances. Is it better to fish in absolute darkness or fish with some sort of light around? Any advice would be appreciated

Also how do fish feed at night? I doubt it's sight. Is it through smell? or touch?

And damn it is freezing at night now!! Gotta bundle up, no more singlets and boardies

What type of fishing/fish/location/boat/beach are you trying?

I don't own a boat (wish i did), so i fish from wharves or safe rockwalls etc. mostly land based. Haven't got a good set of beach gear but looking to pick some up for a future beach session. Location wise, usually near home, georges river area. But if i'm already out fishing and i fish through till dark then probably around port hacking, lilli pilli, wally's or gymea baths

Id focus on squid fishing at night mate, put one out live for a jew. Usually u get bream, trevs, tailor and sharks. That being said, I preffer morning fishing alot more

When I'm out at night, the locals are always going for jewwies and flathead, I heard a man pulled up a 1m flatty at lilli pilli just a few days ago. I've never tried for jewwies, I don't think i have a set up good enough to handle them at home, might have to dig into dad's gear haha.

I'd do the early morning over night any time except uni gets in the way haha, just have to wait till july and see.

I'm guessing that you can really only go with bait at night?

Or is there a glowing SP that you can use?
