I went fishing before the floods west of Como bridge a caught a few squid while fishing for bream. i have never caught squid in the Georges River.

Has anyone else? This was a 44 year first for me.

I've managed a few of those little bottle squid around the bridge over the last few summers. Never specifically gone out to get them but when they follow a bait or a lure up I drop a small jig in.

They seem to run in schools as the 3 or 4 times I've got them I have ended up with a few real quickly. They have always been about the size of your hand and make a cracking flathead bait.

I was fishing Illawong about 4 weeks ago and a small arrow hung around in my torch light for a few minutes while I was fishing at night. I thought it was very lost.

Not surprising Damos. Squid are attracted to light, like street lamps, torch and headlamps. It's a pity that more of the wharves and jetties don't have a streetlight over them. It would certainly improve the squidding. But then again, councils have probably had enough of vandalism of community property.
