mike2153 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Hey guys so I'm thinking of giving the kings a rest for a little bit and start focusing on blackfish. I'll be fishing in the harbour by boat and can buy the weed from my yackle shop but wondering where are some good spots to try out. I've never done it before so it would be all a big learning curve but with the right burely and set up how hard can it be?! Cheers guys
alvillanova Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 plenty of rocky shorelines out there.............
Guest hawkesbass Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 It can be very hard in fact not worth it. Plenty of landbased spots too learn the dark arts first. Unless you are given the exact marks/land reference points too anchor on you will be wasting your time and lose interest fast in chasing blackfish.
elferoz777 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 If it were that easy there would 100 plus blackfishing reports a week. It took me a while to get it but its worth it. Boat fishing would appear more effort than its worth.
Guest Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 The problem in the Harbour as you know is the boats and ferries which make anchoring near rocky shorelines very uncomfortable
mike2153 Posted May 11, 2015 Author Posted May 11, 2015 Ok so it may be harder than I think haha. So get some weed, setup your blackfish rig and get te float sitting right, mix some sand and bread together and butley up and throw the weed out. What else am I missing? Any raiders out there want to do a blackfish session and show me the way for some kingfosh tips?
macman Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Some of your kingfish spots fish pretty well for blackfish over winter, the wedding cakes and sow and pigs for a start, that would be where I would start if I were you, also fish down there probably take cabbage a fair bit, which should be pretty easy to find around the lower harbour marina pontoons etc. If you are going to fish out of a boat, its all about getting it set right with two anchors and the boat not moving around. This will be the hard bit, blackfish usually hold up in a particular spot and if you don't get the float moving in the slot, you won't get the downs. Do a bit of research on the net, at least one of the harbour charters targets them during winter when everything else is quiet. Matt
