Volitan Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 I'm thinking about organising a trip to Kuala Rompin this year. If you dont know about Kuala Rompin do yourself a favour and google it. Its famous because: - the fishing is awesome (apparently), largely focused around sailfish - its very accessible - the weather in our winter/spring pretty much gaurantees that every day is fishable KR is in Malaysia, East Coast, above Singapore. There is only one or two of us (2nd person not confirmed but nearly so) so would need 2 more. The way I figure this trip would work is: - You're responsible for your own travel - youre responsible for your own accommodation, meals etc - we just book a boat together - we all pay the same, and take the same risks of cancellation etc, myself included. However we make the decisions on how we spend the boat time as a group with equal input. So we are just independent travellers with a shared boat booking. I prefer to do it this way because I have a number of reasons for going to Malaysia and will be pursuing them before and after the fishing. I dont want to be locked into a commercial operators schedule. However I recognise that you cant go to KR on your own and expect to just book a spot on a boat. Its got to be organised and its got to be a full charter of the boat. And I genuinely prefer boat fishing with a group of people, not on your own. So I'm thinking: - booking 4 day-long boat trips. I think its best if they are each 2 days apart, that spreads the fishing over 6 or 8 days. If the trips are all consecutive, you risk them all being adversely affected by weather or bad fishing conditions. I've learnt that one the hard way. - probably chasing sailfish for 3 days, and on one day trying for whatever other sportfish occur locally - seems to be mainly gt and cobia. Shld keep it flexible though. - booking with 2 different operators - 2 days each. Minimizes the risk of having the whole trip ruined by an operator who is below par. I've learnt that the hard way too. I know there are various operators who offer complete fishing/transport/accommodation packages to KR. I've looked at them, they are not what I'm looking for. Anyone else interested? Cheers Arron
