Jewhunter Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Gday all. I don't post a lot these days. I'm usually pretty harsh on companies & shops that don't value their clients. I'm also not one to 'plug' products or businesses. However, I'm a great believer in also letting people know when great service is provided. I was pleasantly surprised recently. Twice in fact. The first time was when Outdoordan came up this way for a fish. I took some time off & we ended up spinning South Ballina breakwall for jew for a couple of days. I wasn't well prepared, so borrowed Dan's spare outfit. Turns out he had copped a bad batch of braid & after busting off a fish I decided to run into Ballina to set myself up. To cut a long story short the reel I bought, a 7500 Penn spinfisher, just didn't lay line properly. It was fat from the bottom up & every cast resulted in knots in the braid, no matter what I tried. Having no washers under the spool to remove meant that it couldn't be fixed. On my way home I dropped back into Ballina Bait & Tackle & they tried a new reel & the same thing happened. I left the reel with them to see what they could do. A week later they rang back & told me that they would upgrade the reel to a ssv, which was double the price, for free. They had spooled it for me & it was waiting there ready to go. Thanks guys, that's what I call service. I wonder if I had bought the reel over the net what the result would have been?? The second time was when I went to re-spool my old Diawa Sol 2500. It's one of the original Sols from many years ago. It layed line very fat from the top to bottom, & had never done it before. Turns out it was wear & tear after a lot of fish & use. I explained this when I rang, & back in those days they never added a spare washer, or a shim, to the boxes. The box is long gone anyway! So, no questions asked they took my details & sent me a shim free of charge. I spooled her up today & it's perfect. Well done & thanks Diawa. It's great to see that customer service is alive & well. So there you go. Service like this is quite rare these days so I thought I would send out a public thankyou to both businesses. Keep up the good work. Cheers, Grant.
slinkymalinky Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Good to hear. Businesses that fail with their service have a pretty short life span these days. With so much available over the net and often very cheap, local shops need something more to keep customers coming back and their big advantage (for the ones smart enough to realise it) is service. I've dealt with Daiwa, Shimano and Pure Fishing (Abu) service departments heaps and they are all fantastic. I've never dealt with Penn (distributed in Aus by Jarvis Walker I think). There are a couple of other brands though that I won't buy any more after crappy service. Next time I'm passing through Ballina, I'll make a point to stop in and buy some gear. Glad to hear you got everything sorted out and that I don't have to break out my reel service kit for you!! Cheers, Slinky
