Headed out to the deep off Lilli Pilli at first light. Not a lot about, a few little reddies, only a couple of yellowtail, and no tailor at all.

Landed one squid that grabbed a pillie, and a red gurnard.

Put out one of the yakkas as a livie, a bit bigger than I wanted to use, the other 2 were bigger again.

Was thinking I was going to be heading home with the gurnard, when the livie took off. Gave it some time to swallow the livie, then raised the rod, felt weight and it was gone. Gave the livie a bit of movement, then a second hit, again no hook up. Moved it again, then a third hit and was hooked up this time.

Given the amount of fight the kingie put up, I was expecting something bigger. During the fight, I managed to wind in another rod, and pull up a handline that the kingie swam around. Sorted that out and it swam around the back anchor rope, so pulled up that anchor, untangled the line and it was still going mad.

After it was in the boat, the sun was rising over the horizon, so headed for home. The gurnard was still swimming about in the water in the esky, so it was released.

You make it sound so simple Yowie but our younger Raiders should take note that many years of experience are required to have "sorted that out" without losing the fish.

Always a joy to read your posts. Thanks for sharing with us.

No temperature gauge, but cooling down.

Not as easy as it sounds. Once around the anchor rope, I thought that was the end. The 15 pound mono did not fray or break.

Nice fish yowie

I noticed you headed home as the sun rose over the horizon! Sounds like a very short trip or was the kingy enough to satisfy the crunch within :)

Tef, you have given the game away but you forgot to mention that he fishes from a 100 FT long Flybridge cruiser. All he has to do is walk on at one end from the wharf at his palatial home in the Port, get a Mini Moke down to the other end and start fishing. Too easy! And the bikini clad ladies bring him a Bundy Rum and Coke whenever he wants it. No wonder he is out every day.

PS Tef; We need to keep this one going.
