My wife is going to Mittagong for the week Sunday 28th June - Sat 4th July so (after dropping her off) I'm heading to Huskisson with the tinny to fish the estuaries at Greenwell Point and Huskisson and may even sneak out into Jervis Bay if the weather is ok. If anyone is interested in joining me I can take 1 in my tinnie. I usually fish with soft plastics and lures and target flatties and bream. I'm not booking any accommodation till I have an idea what the weather is going to be like. If it looks like crap I'll head to Sydney and visit some of the relos. So the general idea will be like this. If you are flexible and can go at short notice, it may be a good option for your consideration. Cheers, Neil.

G'day Swifty, many thanks for your reply. I'm staying at the Jervis Bay Caravan Park (Husskisson). Have you fished Jervis Bay before? I've never caught a Kingie or YFT but have had some lovely Snapper , when fishing in South Australia. It would be great to catch up if it's at all possible. My mobile number is 0466853633 if you want to contact me. My boat is a 12ft tinnie so I usually just fish the safer water in the estuaries for flatties and Bream, etc...usually with soft plastics and lures. Cheers, Neil.

I was going to stay there but ended up at in husky so we could walk home from pub after a feed and a few bundys.. I fish JB or Sussex generally one weekend a month, hopefully more when I move down that way soon!

Worth a shot in St Georges basin in your size boat, better flatties and bream in the basin than the bay and absolutly great location for lure and plastics fishing!

As for JB If the weather is good, drive around and launch at Murrays Beach (costs $10) but puts you right ontop of the squid and a short trip to middle ground or bowen Is. instead of the long trek accross the bay..

We will be launching at Wollamia so if your fishing keep an eye out for a White/Blue Haines "Swifty" and give us a wave!

Maybe you can put me on to some likely spots in St Georges Basin if the weather is ok. How far is it from the Wollamia ramp? I've fished at Sussex Inlet before (long time ago). Is that part of Jervis Bay? I'll keep an eye out for you. Cheers, Neil.

There are 4? ramps in the basin all about 15 minutes away.

The best ramp is at basin view, has proper wharf etc and suitable for large boats. Ramps at St Georges basin, Ewrol Bay and sanctuary point are suitable for smaller boats.

all around the basin are shallows and these and the drop-offs will all produce fish, they drop from 1 to 10 metre all the way around. There are a number of artificial reefs, gps cords on maritime sites. The eastern dropoff is known to produce big tailor. For bream look for the cockle beds. Max depth is about 10m.

Sussex inlet feeds the Basin.

Good Luck!

post-20708-0-16759600-1435190477_thumb.jpgThanks Swifty. I don't have gps for the boat (know my way round the Murrumbidgee pretty well -lol). I'll definitely give that northern and eastern side of SGB a go. I'll be happy to get a few feeds of flatties, to be honest. Give me a buzz and we may catch up for a few ales in Huskisson one evening. Cheers, Neil.

that boat will be perfect in the basin mate, monster dusky flatties, big bream, big tailor and the occasional Jew are caught in there!

Some good snapper come from the reefs too..

Just had a look at sea breeze, looks like winds and weather going to be on our side!!

Hi Neil - as promised the Shoalhaven water quality looks good as at today. My sources tell me that they have been bagging out on blackfish at the Greenwell pt main wharf. Also fished the area near crookhaven boat ramp and the entrance to the shoalhaven and landed a nice bag of duskies (9). That same evening we fished just outside of the entrance and landed snapper to 3 kg. we anchored and burleyed , the reds were there straight away at dusk. Sorry I'm going to miss you this trip I didn't realise my better half had organised holidays for that same week, I had a nice offshore run planned- the blue fin and yellow fin are about just off the shelf. Could be exciting in your 12 footer . Lol

Any way it is raining here today but looks like it may settle down- hope you have a good trip

Many thanks for the report. I've booked to stay at Huskisson and am looking forward to having a nice 4 days down there. Will venture into the bay and also SGB to have a go on the reefs. Hope to spend a bit of time at Greenwell point too, but probably won't risk going out the front. Maybe we'll catch up some time in the future. Hope you have a nice break with the Mrs. Cheers, Neil. Where can I get weed for the luderick?

Finding it locally at the moment is hard due to the cold weather but if you call in to Mcallums tackle world in Nowra they quite often have some on hand

How did you go Neil?

We had some awesome weather down there.. Fishing was a bit funny though...

Took us a day and half to find the fish nothing showing on the sounder. Plenty of bait schools but nothing around them, spent half a day trolling live squid for kings but no luck, a few touches halfway between the bay and Currarong along the cliffs but no takers.

The squid we had no trouble finding, only most of them were too big for baits but will make a great dinner..

Was also good watching the Navy boats doing some exercises on the bay!

Ended up getting some nice snapper, flatties around the 50cm mark and a dozen large squid. Most of the fish ended up hooking up on fresh slimy fillets. Had some fun on light gear with the salmon on longnose too.

nearly ended up staying another day and fishing the basin but decided that the 6hr drive home would be better gotten over with!

Hi Swifty

If your trolling for kings around the bay there is no such thing as a squid that is too big - metre plus kings eat them like lollies

Glad you had good weather

Hi Zacnoel and Swifty. I had a pleasant few days down there fishing in the creek. Caught a few dozen fish which included Flatties, Tailor and a nice Trevally on the very first cast with a soft plastic. Biggest flattie was 67 and one of 52 with a few around 45cms also. There was a fair bit of weed in the water and some discolouration from the recent fresh water infusion. Good to see you got into a few Swifty and hope your trip north was good Zacnoel. Back to normality today with a trip down the Murrumbidgee...alas I didn't even get a touch. Thanks for the advice guys, Neil.
