Fishing_Maniac Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Hi guys, I am planning to buy a decent reel which is capable of catching Kingies this summer. I am planning to fish off the rocks and on my boat. My budget is around $200. What would you guys recommend, the stradic or the spinfisher? Does anyone have any other suggestions? Cheers, James
Stradic Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Do you plan to use it for spinning lures or bait fishing

Crossfire63 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Pflueger Salt II. Its a Penn Battle in a different dress and about $50 cheaper. You can pick them up for around $120 of the www
reese Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Im doing the same thing, I personally am going to the stradic, 6000 using for jigging and baits, 6000 maybe over the top, but I'm happy to spend 50 extra for the slightly better reel. I tested the pen and Shimano on the rod and Shimano felt amazing.. I'm not a pro and haven't been doing boat fishing long, so this is just an opinion.

I am planning to spool the stradic 5000 with 30lb of braid
OldMateJon Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) There doing a Stradic for $149 for ya or that was the value of the rod you have??? Edited June 23, 2015 by OldMateJon
Zacnoel Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 (edited) Sounds too cheap for a 6000 stradic ?? But to answer your first question - Stradic , Stradic , Stradic. In my opinion there is no comparison between the two Edited July 6, 2015 by Zacnoel
finin Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Still have an original stradic, still use it, over 15years old.
GreyNurse Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 (edited) What about the Shimano Spheros 6000SW. A bit dearer than $200, but it's fully sealed. Alternatively if you're not worried about sealing, the Fin Nor Lethal 100 SP60 will give you a robust reel with plenty of change. Edited July 7, 2015 by GreyNurse
Guest Guest123456789 Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 (edited) i have both the spinfisher ssv 8500 and the stradic FJ5000. Both are excellent reels, you can't really go wrong. The stradic I have skulldragged an 80cm Australian Salmon from the beach using 15lbs mono. I've since respooled 10lbs braid and use it to target bream/flathead from the rocks. The SSV8500 I use as exclusively as an offshore reel, spooled with 30lbs braid. I also have the Daiwa Exceler 6500T which I will use to target mulloway/kings from land. Guest no one Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Hey guys, just a reminder to try and keep the tackle store names out of posts. I know it isn't easy but it's the rules. My opinion, I love Penn, but both are fantastic reels!
