G'day Raiders,

Such a great day today, finally some sunshine in a long week of rain. After a long drive through a busy parra road, I finally got to intercontinental to drop off my girlfriend for her conference. Lucky for me, she gave me a 2 hour pass and with some advice from fellow raider Adamski, I drove down the road to double bay ferry wharf to have a flick with some HBs, metals and soft plastics but nothing was working. There were massive bream and whiting right under me, some looked atleast 45cm+. Too bad nothing was playing ball. With the polarised sunnies on, I spotted a small stingray and a little shark bullying the smaller bream. This is when things got interesting. I saw some splashes at the upper end of the wharf and decided to check it out. To my surprise, there was a school of atleast a dozen kingies!!!! This was my first time seeing kingies and I was super excited but having only brought my 2-4kg rod, I wasn't sure if I could land one but hey it was worth a go. I had no time to change lures so I dropped my minnow SP right next to them and gave it a bit of a jiggle, a few looks but no takes. Within a few seconds they swam off and I put on a metal trying to cast it toward where they swam, again no luck. Still not a bad sight, I could only imagine the fight of one at the end of the line... one day raiders! one day I'll bring one up :D With 20 minutes to go till my girlfriend finishes her conference I decided to just sit a SP at the bottom and take in the beautiful sunlight and to my surprise, finally something was picking at it and as I guessed I landed a little leatherjacket except he was pinned quite strangely haha, horn in the swivel and foulhooked in the head. poor bugger, pics below. Oh well, it was good to get away from the books after a long week of exams! Glad to be back out wetting a line.

Well done on getting out and giving it a bash man! Sorry the advice wasn't much help. The bream round there seem to be a finicky bunch: most of mine have come on the run-in tide earlier in the day. The flats to the left of the wharf are also a good shout for flatties. If you ever fancy another go around there, gimme a shout (I'm still looking for my first kingie too!)

Trying to catch the big fish under wharves will drive you crazy! I've made the mistake many times. Only hope is sending a small bait down slowly, unweighted and with very light line and small hook. If they don't take after a few shots, there not worth the bother aha.

Also with the Kings, best to use a quick retrieve as opposed to lightly twitching it around them. it gets them excited and if there's a few around they will race at it and hit it hard. Sometimes even just out of aggression, not because they are hungry
