Mud crabs

Hi I enjoy catching mud crabs but after a lot of research I still can't find out what time are mud crabs full of meat . Would any crabbers have the answer please. Tightlines Stephen

I've observed that in general they lay up in winter & shed their shells & start moving again

when the water starts to warm.

So Sept, Oct & into Nov sees them quite empty, & they really put the meat on in Dec, Jan & Feb.

March can be funny. I'm not sure if they shed their shells again, but I've found some strangely empty crabs.

Then they pack the meat on again before the winter shut down.

That is very general though. Last year here on the Tweed they ran the entire year. Not so full in July & August

but good in Sept & Oct. Go figure...
