Hi Raiders

About to invest in a new (used) boat and wanted to know whether or not any advice could be shared on the savage scorpion SL 500 cuddly cabin 2003

Any general advice on savage cuddly cabins would also be appreciated

Cheers

Bill

Hi Bill, I've been involved with savage cuddly cabins and if the model your looking at is glass then your in for a smooth ride if your motor has enough juice to get on the plane. The cuddy is good for storage and the very occasional overnight trip and if set up correctly you can hide a porta potty for those long days on the water. The underseat storage is limited but good place to hide away tool kits, extra anchors etc. Overall the build is quite good but it is a heavy setup and a good trailer and tow vehicle is essential. If it's a ally hull it will obviously be lighter. One big complaint is access to anchor well which if memory serves correct is inside the cabin and it is a mild contortion act to get anchors set and retrieved. Pm me if you want to chat further. Ric.

i own a savage scorpion 5 meter al cubby cab great boat well built a little rough ride in a chop as with all al boats the only fault is the under floor tank is only 60ltr and you get water in the tank from condensation i fitted a water seperater but after a big wet with the tank half empty you might get 2 cups off water and the glove box is shit also hope this helps cheers gary

I've got the slighty bigger 580 lancer cuddy cab. Aluminium hull for my first boat goes well. In chop does bounce and move around a bit but thats to be expected. The beds are a good size for kids adults could do with a slightly longer base otherwise your legs are left tuck up. Otherwise a pretty decent boat.

Thanks all

It is an Aluminium boat and comes equipped with an electric anchor so hopefully that solves that issue. Might take u up on the PM Ric cheers

Would like to know more about the water condensation situation, is this issue specific to this model or a general issue with tanks in the floor? And how easy/difficult is it to fit a water separator?

Cheers

It's probably not condensation if you are getting that much water. Air actually holds very little moisture and we are only talking about 30L of air here. Plus the conditions aren't right for the moisture to condense out in a fuel tank. The surface of the tank will have to be substantially cooler than the air. In reality it changes temperature in line with the ambient temperature. I'd be looking at things like your filler cap leaking or the air vent letting in spray.
