Lutha
Hi All Apologies for what i would think is a simple question, I use a Catana 902 shore spin off the beach and just inherited a heap of lures, wondering what weight it can handle? I would assume it wouldnt matter as a fish is heavier but thought i would ask. I have visions on the rod snapping or something similar...... or is it a question of the line breaking strength? thanks Lutha Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
PM79
The lure rating on a rod is the minimum and maximum weight for optimal performance when casting. As for your rod, it's rated for 10-45g.
Lutha
Thanks, how do you find that out, out of interest? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
PM79
The rating for your rod? I checked a number of websites that still had that model in stock. Edited July 22, 2015 by PM79

Kooks
often the line and lure rating is printed on the rod itself. Check toward the butt end.
Guest no one
PM79 is right, it's all about the casting! Personally I used to flick 240g leads into the surf on a 130g recommended rod, but when using less weight id get more distance... Go figure?!? The science behind it is the flex in the rod is being tested the most during the force in which you cast, not dragging a fish in. Never snapped a rod on a fish but snapped a few on the cast!
