Nice work on your first squid.

I have found that they bite any time of day. Some spots work best on the high tide and others on the low.

Calm and more importantly clear water works best for me and as light or no wind as possible. If its a

windy day and you find a spot with weed and its protected from the wind, your in with a chance.

My best land based sessions have been during the calm just before a storm has rolled in.

Rubbing a pilly on your jig every 10-15mins when they are not biting also helps.

Hope you catch lots more. :biggrinthumb:

Sorry for the late reply stephan, i mostly squid outside the heads but inside i find the same thing (afternoon going into evening).

My tactic is different, i use 3.5 size jigs and go as close to the bottom as possible (snagging weed every now and then is a good indicator that you are in the right depth zone). I drift across weed beds and rarely wind in, the drift does most of the work, all i do is impart a twitch, jig every now and then.

Good luck and let me know how you go!

Well done stephan great to see you got onto them

I've had my best days squidding (landbased) on over cast days and very calm, no wind conditions (got 15 that day)

Then the next day was sunny with a tad of wind and got 14!

So I guess it really matters if their there or not

Normally too in winter the bigger ones are around, not in numbers tho

Keep at it, great bait and for a feed

Cheers Gianni
