brad_tate
I recently repowered my boat with a new ETec 60HP. I do plan to keep to the 3-year dealer maintenance but want to do my own maintenance in between these intervals. I get the feedback that leaving everything untouched for 3 years is not a good idea - bolts etc need to be removed/replaced to keep threads in good nick. What recommendations does the Raider community have for maintenance between the 3-year intervals? What should I check, remove/replace, and how frequently? BWV
Read your manual, it should list what to do and when it is required. A lot depends on the conditions you operate it as well.
brad_tate
Thanks Whaler, I'll certainly read the manual (have already done that actually), just keen to get the extra feedback from those who have been there and done that. The boat is kept off the water, is used every 2-3 weeks during the warmer months for day trips, and spends a week on the water being used daily for a week a couple of times a year. Mostly Estuary work, but does get outside Botany heads reasonably regularly. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Zacnoel
Hi tastee I have a 135HO etec and despite the 3 year , 300 hour recomendation I still change the leg oil annually and would be changing the water pump impeller about every 100 hours or so for peace of mind. don.a
Seized bolts won"t be a problem on my twin 135s. There back in the shop getting pulled apart every second time I use them, 35k of heart ache. I hope you have better luck than me
Overdraft
I had a 200HO and for me it was nothing but a head ach. I was averaging a trip back to the mechanic every 2nd or 3rd outing. But to be fair my motor had over a 1000 hrs on it and the etec dealer in my area wasn't very user friendly so I refused to take it there which might of made the problem worse. My only advise is find a good mechanic and keep them!!
don.a
_unts are supposed to be good dealers. I'm stuck with them till warranty runs out. 2 1/2 years to get it rite. (not very funny) We will be in court before then.

antonywardle
My dealer said to keep an eye on the leg oil because he knew the history of theoutboard and the leg had been replaced. He also told me to get the proper ETEC oil in and come back in three years. Flush it after every run and keep the engine clean. When they installed it, he found it had the wrong plugs and the wrong filter in it so he fixed that but other than that I'm pretty happy with mine. brad_tate
Thanks for all the feedback. My engine will only clock about 60 hours a year so will consider the impeller etc suggestion. Perhaps an impeller, oil and fuel filter change at 18 months would suit. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
