ambrose607
Hi Raiders. Just a question out of curiosity! Today I was looking in the fishing section of a Km@$t store. They had a gimbal belt there. What is the purpose of the bolt running through the middle where the rod is supposed to sit. Surely it doesn't go through a hole in the rod! You could end up in NZ. Seriously i have no idea that's why I'm asking.
Overdraft
The bottom of game rods have a cross cut in the but which stops them moving side to side in rod holders. The bolt your referring to will just act as a locator for the base of the rod. A lot of gimbal belts don't have the bolt
finin
On some rods at the butt end u will notice a slot. That slot is where your bolt sits and helps lock the rod In to aid in lifting and winding. Some rods dont have the slot so yousimply take the bolt out and the butt sits in but has tendency to slip out. Mainly for larger species but may also be used for land based fishing off rocks, and beach rods.
oz_brett
agreeing with both the above if you check your rod holders in your boat there should be similar to stop the rod from turning, in the case of plastic rod holders there are 2 small pieces of plastic in the bottom (one each side) once again for the gimble (slots in the butt ) to lock in to. boattart
All of the above . The gimbal fitting on the base of game rods it to stop the rod twisting when either in the holder or when placed in the gimbal belt.
