Razzell
Just a quick one as a PSA. My kayak is out of action at the moment, so I've been hitting the beaches recently with a lovely new outfit my dad gifted me for a birthday when I went back to the UK. A top notch 12ft Sonik Carp rod (they go great on the beaches - large circumf. eyes) and a new 4k Shimano OC which I can use for kings on the yak come summer. Very happy. Two weeks ago I went to Bigola with good success. 7 Sambo on the rise with a 1.5m SE swell. Yesterday I had a meeting up near the beaches toward the end of the day, so decided to go to Mona Vale. High tide was just before last light, so I figured I'd have a couple of hours if the beach was looking good. 1m SE swell I'd say, with little wind, despite Willy Weathers insistence that it was going to be a 1.5m westerly and 23k westerly winds. Yeah, alright then, Willy Weather... The beach is looking good on high tide. Plenty of good gutters, one of which I picked to throw in my pillies. Straight away, ~60cm Sambo. 10 minutes later another, and then a slightly smaller model a short while later. Went quiet for a little bit, then my rod buckled but I lost the take. And again, then one more time before I hooked on. Good weight to it and doing a number on my drag. Unfortunately it went dead, and my suspicions were confirmed; tailor that chewed the 20lb. Silly, really, I knew they were there so I should have ganged. Loaded some gang hooks, but by that point the tide had shallowed the gutters and everything had move on to deeper water. Still, a fun hour and a half with plenty going on. So if anyone is up that way, Mona Vale is looking good for a couple of hours at high tide and the Sambo/Tailor are still in abundance on the beaches. Once the tide recedes, gutters which are running parallel (with one or two rips), disappear. Cheers!
