Tunatrollin
G'day fellas just seeing if any of you Would eat muddies or blue swimmers caught west of Putney ? I remember reading somewhere that there was high mercury levels west of the harbour bridge ?? Contemplating throwing some traps out but if there not edible I'll stay east of Putney . Any info appreciated Edited August 26, 2015 by Tunatrollin
fragmeister
The recommendation is eat nothing west of the Harbour Bridge and 5 X 150 gram servings of crab from east of the bridge. I guess the answer to your question based on the official recommendation is don't eat crabs from Putney. Having said that there are many people who eat fish they catch up as far as the weir at Parramatta but who knows what the effects are in the long run.... maybe none. There is suggestion that the main science has been done on animals but humans are much less susceptible to the dioxins that contaminate the Parramatta River for various reasons. Its a very confusing subject so I just avoid it and stick to the recommendations. Its a damn shame that we have to worry about the quality of the food we catch ourselves.
