jeffb5.8 Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 (edited) My boat over hangs about 550mm from the back of the trailer or 200mm from the last roller If I wanted to move it forward 150mm or so can I just move the winch pole forward and then adjust my rollers? Is there a minimum distance I need to observe for moving the winch pole so I still have adequate turning when towing. It's a tiller steer 4.2m Tinnie with no weight in the front Edited September 10, 2015 by jeffb5.8
Guest 4myson Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 How much length do you have from the winch post base to the tow ball hitch ? Should be no problems with a tinny , just keepin mind had a friend who did the same then realised he couldn't open his rear tailgate on his wagon while the trailer was hooked on .
Fab1 Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 (edited) My boat over hangs about 400mm from the back of the trailer. If I wanted to move it forward 150mm or so can I just move the winch pole forward and then adjust my rollers? Is there a minimum distance I need to observe for moving the winch pole so I still have adequate turning when towing. It's a tiller steer 4.2m Tinnie with no weight in the front You don't mention what trailer you have but that boat should be sitting on a skidded trailer with keel rollers and the transom should only protrude the last keel roller by around 50-100mm.For the boat to effect your turning you'd want the bow to sit right on top of the tow ball and even then you'd have to make sharp turns for the bow to come in contact with the car.Think of a jackknife situation the rig ends up at right angles to the car pretty much before it or the trailer make contact with the car. I would move the winch forward and adjust the keel rollers and skids to suit the boats new position.150mm forward as you say is still not enough.Remember to slope the keel rollers down from front to back ever so slightly and have 90%of the boats weight on them and the remaining 10% resting on the skids. Hoping this helps you somewhat. Cheers. Edited September 9, 2015 by Fab1
jeffb5.8 Posted September 10, 2015 Author Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) Thanks for reply's I have about 450mm from the post to the start of the tow ball mount. My trailer doesn't have any skids just rollers and the back rollers are a group of 4 on each side that tilt up and down and are in a slight inward angle. The rest are in the centre and are single long rollers which are adjustable up and down only. 200mm overhang from the last roller So in have just over 500mm at the tow ball end I will post a few pictures when I get home from work. Thanks again Jeff Edited September 10, 2015 by jeffb5.8
The Iceman Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 The standard we used for setting up boats when I worked for a trailer company was the overhang should be the width of the last roller
pjbink Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 (edited) You should have skids rather than wobble rollers for a pressed tinnie. Also the keel rollers should carry most of the weight. There is a good chance wobble rollers will damage the hull and no manufacturer will be likely to honour a claim for a tinnie set up that way. Edited September 12, 2015 by billfisher
jeffb5.8 Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 Hi are skids something i can buy and swap into the brackets the wobble rollers use?
