Hey guys - was wondering if I can get some advice as to whether or not it would be possible to replace just the top section of my 2pc 7' Ugly Stik.

Any idea who I should contact?

I scratched up a whole section of the rod and bent out the top guide against some boulders this morning while scrambling down a cliff to land a big bream (got him - 40cm, but he's looking like an expensive fish). My fishing partner was supposed to be behind me ready to go down with the net in such a situation but wandered off. My fault I know, but the adrenaline got the better of me this time and I was careless on the descent. Lucky I didn't hurt myself, actually. Perhaps a good lesson on taking better care of my gear.

The bottom section is fine so I was hoping to save some cash by getting just the top piece repaired or replaced.

Don't know if this is doable but would rather avoid replacing the entire rod if possible.

Well done on the fish mate! You're a madman, that sounds like a great story that will get better with age

Thanks for the help guys. I know it's just an aesthetic thing but will they be able to buff out or repaint over the scratched section too?

Haha, yeah it will make for a great story. We were targeting flathead at a sandy bay without much luck and earlier on I'd spotted a bunch of large bream over this cliff. I thought I'd give it a quick bash before we left. Rerigged to a float setup, changed to circle hooks and it all paid off. The down on my last cast was magic. Like fine wine, these fishing stories are.

On a side note, I was really impressed with how the Ugly Stik held up against a big fish. It's the first time I've had something big on the other end using this rod (I tend to use my cheapies to avoid damaging my nicer gear!) and it really punched above its weight in terms of controlling and steering in the fish. Was able to pull him right over the rocks where I used to lose my floats and get snagged all the time. Great rod.
