Chappo Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 (edited) Hi All Just back from a comp at Coffs. Scored this 4 kilo, 63cm Pearl Perch. My biggest to date. Also, if anyone knows how to get ALL of the sand out of pipi's, please send me a message. Chappo Edited September 22, 2015 by Chappo

Chappo Posted September 23, 2015 Author Posted September 23, 2015 Thanks all. Yes, should have mentioned it was caught floating a butterflied pilchard with a small amount of lead running all the way down to a 6o gamakatsu hook. Was actually targeting snapper and we were in only 15 metres of water. Used my old faithful shimano bait runner. always a hoot when it goes off!
finin Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Awese pearly, biggest ive seen. Pippi purge just leave em in a bucket of salt walter for a couple of days. Change water once a day. Or get a hessian sack keep it moist with salt water and put pippis in it.

Welster Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Great fish, congrats. Id love to get up north and have a crack at them.
Blairy Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 Great fish and Coffs is renown for big Pearlies - I consistently saw them that size back in the mid to late 80's - I remember a great bloke by the name of Bob Ryan who weighed one in over 6 kilos back in those days.
Blairy Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Good spotting that is certainly down that way off sawtell I reckon some excellent snapper spots down that way as well.
bookwa Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 A further tip on the sand removal--seems to work better if you put em in a sieve or an onion bag or a wire mesh and SUSPEND them in a big tub of salt water. change water at least three times in the day. Used to do this a while ago whenthey were in plague proportions on blackrock beach near Iluka. We would then chop up and make fritters. A bit rich though so do'nt eat too many!
NWHC Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Hey guys are you cooking the pipis on the beach, thought you couldn't take them 50 m past the tide mark? Often thought about cooking them up get a few while worming.
JohnDory Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Murray Nice fish With the Pippies. No short cuts. I did this a few years back for only 24 Hrs They were bloody terrible, full of sand. Never tried again. Let us know how you go JD
Chappo Posted October 8, 2015 Author Posted October 8, 2015 JD The best advice so far has been to keep them aerated and in fresh water for a few days. the longest I have left them is a day and a half with regular changing of water and in a dark place and unfortunately still got traces of sand! someone must know the secret!
