Rah Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 G'day Raiders, I was lucky enough to get out 3 times over the weekend for only 2 undersize bream. Started on Thursday morning for a quick fish while waiting for the dog to get some test done at the vet. Not much happening though. Only a few bites and 1 dropped. On Saturday we needed to keep the kids entertained for a couple of hours so went for a drive to check out the bait n go machine at the motor boat club. Pretty impressive and I went with the glow worms and prawns. Back to the cooks as it’s nice and close to home. Put out a worm and a prawn for the kids but there wasn't much happening and very hard to keep 3 year old twins interested with no nibbles. They had a lot of fun feeding "Big Bad Barry" the massive eel? That lives under the pontoon. This thing is huge and has scared the crap out of me a few times by poking his head out of the water. He ate close to a whole loaf of bread. But no fish caught for the hour and a half that we were there. The Kids were off to Luna Park yesterday with their cousins so it was a perfect time to soak a few more worms and prawn from Saturday. Was a very slow start but as the tide turned to run in the bites started. The prawns were the go as the worms were just getting ripped off too easily. Got smoked on what I’m assuming was a Jew cause this thing was GOING. Lost the hook after about a 20 second struggle. There was heaps of fish cruising around saw a pair of either small Jews or massive bream or maybe trevs cruise past about 1.5m from the shore, just off the rocks. The bite was very constant but was struggling to hook up. By 11.30 it was getting way too hot in the sun so packed it in. Ended up with 2 under size bream at about 20cm. There were 2 undersize flatty’s at about 25cm dead. 1 on the rocks and 1 just in the water and a small sting ray about 20cm across on the rocks also. A heaps of rubbish laying around and chicken bones everywhere. Always disappointing to see fish washed up or just left there but worse to see all the rubbish laying around. All in all was great to get out in the beaut weather and enjoy the long weekend. Sorry for the novel. Cheers Tara
adamski Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Well done on getting a couple of bream. There are lots of fish in the Cooks at the mo, you see schools of big mullet everywhere, but there are plenty of tailor and trevs about too. It's a real shame about the rubbish on the river though, so much crap left lying around on the banks.
