Krispy ! Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Decided to head out early this morning and try my hand at using stickbaits for kings, second cast with a sugapen got nailed as soon as it hit the water and after a 5 minute fight on 6lb and my little stradic 1000 a little 60cm king came up. got him back in and began casting once again, had a few follows for 30 mins but no takers until a solid king that looked to be around 80cm followed it right to my feet and nailed it on the surface, it was really one of the most exciting takes ive ever seen and the explosion as it smacked the lure on the surface was really loud, I was really undergunned so I just prayed the line didn't touch structure, to my surprise I withstood its first blistering run and slowly began to get line back however as soon as it went for its second run it was all over.... great fun but still would have been nice to land on that gear. Chucked on a little maria metal and had a couple follows but no takes. Was back in the car and off to uni at 830 so a great way to start the day. I forgot to take photos with my phone so I got a screenshot off my go pro now that im on my break.
Yowie Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Nothing for the table, but at least you pulled out a fish, and "nearly" had another one. You need a lot of 6lb line to land an 80cm kingie, they don't stop at that size.

Regards, Nathan thanks mate, yeah it was all good fun, could have slept in but had a sneaky session instead
allen_f Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Hey Krispy where do you get in a sesh before uni? You got to Usyd right? I swear there is no water around here unless you head to the harbour? You always have productive sessions, I'm mad jelly. Kings are next on my hit list :')

Kings are next on my hit list :') The lake in Victoria park hahahaha nah I usually either head to the hacking or harbour, ive been getting kings in both the harbour and hacking lately so it just depends on convenience.from uni Pier 2 is just down the road cliftons is 20 mins by car and a few other spots within 10 mins drive that go alright as well. You might as well start targeting Kings now because the season is well and truly started, get small liveys and fish mid week if you can
nickb111 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 do you have a picture of the lure? Always thought sugapens were bream lures .//

Krispy ! Posted October 6, 2015 Author Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) do you have a picture of the lure? Always thought sugapens were bream lures .// any small surface lure is a lollipop to a kingfish, don't worry about bigger poppers unless youre after metre plus fish, if you search up sugapen in google look for the sardine one Just as well you didnt catch the 80cm, where would you put it before uni , Better Luck next time and hope you land one as big to make up for it hahahaha yeah that's true, I might have bought an esky and some ice but it earnt its freedom Nah easy solution - sashimi in lectures hhahaha ill take a filleting board into a lecture and start cutting it up Edited October 6, 2015 by Krispy !

I use an 8 foot 2-5 kg CD (composite development) rod, it goes real good can cast a mile and can give some stick,
