The morning started early with a beautiful sunrise < which is defiantly something i could do more often !!

It didn't take long to get a hit on a metal lure that i was prospecting with . I was using a fast surface retrieve and on getting close to the boat letting it drop and jigging to the surface , and on my second attempt the rod buckles and the weight is intense . After a to and fro for 10 min i see some colour and as I'm reaching for the net the hook pulls and this creature of the deep swims away . So close yet so far away !!

I keep at it and hook up on a healthy taylor ,which also manages to escape at the boat . At this point that warm happy feeling after having watch a beautiful sunrise has turned into that horrible sinking feeling .

I don't give up but decide to change to plastics ( 4 inch minnow ) and take aim at some interesting bust ups that had developed around me . Same technique fast surface retrieve and drop at the boat with a jig and next thing you know I'M ON AGAIN BABE !!! This time I'm calling it for a big Jewfish with strong runs and lots of weight but as i get it up i see a thumper of a kingfish that is not giving up . At this point i am willing to jump in after this one if anything goes wrong ,but luckily things go my way and i boat a new PB KiNGY at 75cm !!!

I change spots and come across some fellow raiders ( hope you did well today ) and make my way home early with a big smile on my face !!!!!

Wow really! Didn't know we got kings this far up! Being migratory it's probably safe to eat too! Might have to have a bit of a troll round the river then......

No worries please do pop over and say hi if you see me about :-)

I've caught a few kings as by-catch in the upper reaches of Lane Cover River chasing jews (in 2-5 metres of water). Was quite a surprise when they surfaced, considering how dirty the water can get that far up.
