Hi,

Just wondering if anybody use's their Ipad or Iphone as a chartplotter using the $27 Navonics+ app? Aside from the cons of waterproofing and possibly not having sufficient charge how does the app compare to the real thing?

Thanks a lot,
Will

Hi will. I use it all the time on an old iPhone with a life proof case(no sim). Teamed with a sonar phone sounder and a charger and I'm happy with the results for in bays and rivers around Sydney.

I really like the app - especially when paired with the sonar phone. I like how it overlays your actual sonar soundings on the existing chart. The only problem I have had with it is if the sun is in the iPad then it will get so hot it shuts down. I've got a photo of my iPad in place - I'll post it when I get in front of a pc.

Navionics is an excellent app...been using it since sept 2015...only negative so far is the app uses alot of battery power so you need to bring a battery pack or charger if you are planning to use it all day...

In the midst of bringing a boat back from Adelaide to Sydney. All the plotting and tracks have been done on the iPad,....though I and up to around $75 in subscription.

That includes entering several very small harbours, and 3 hours of night running and entering a very tight harbour, Cape Jaffa, with only 2.5m depth.

The Simrad on board is unfortunately not reading the c-map card

Ok, well I went ahead with it and all I can say is wow. I've never seen a chartplotter before thats probably why I'm so excited but it has too be one of the best $27 I've spent. Amazing how you enter in your draft etc and it shows the fastest (and safest) way to get too places. Changes too tides etc. I can also now see the reef drop offs and many other features to pinpoint places too fish. Really happy with how it looks and can't wait to properly use it. I would of just paid the 27$ for it too show speed limits and also for it too tell my speed haha. My only question is, is there a way for it too show off shore reefs such as the peak and 12 mile or are they too deep too show up. I wouldn't go out there but it would be a cool feature to be able to see where those reefs are.

Thanks a lot,

Will

Also, what add-ons are you guys buying. After the $27 I paid I already have sonar chart and other things you guys are calling 'extras'?

Thanks a lot,

Will

I have the normal subscription plus the 3 options highlighted. I have the sonar phone fitted to my boat and that give bottom mapping in areas that aren't fully mapped.

I'll be renewing my subscription when it expires.

Ric.
