1800qwerty Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Hi All, I have recently purchased 3 of these sets (Shimano Quickfire Spin 701 / Cazna 4000FI Combo Silver & Black 7 ft) The reel is a Cazna 4000 So I need some advice on what type line to get, how heavy the line should be, what brand and how much line to get so it spools up all 3 of those reels. I have no bias towards braid or mono. Price wise, preferably the cheaper the better as the users will be all beginners (who have used braid before), but happy to pay for braid or better quality line if its better value for money. Most if not all of the fishing will be land based fishing targeting pretty much anything that will take the bait, so the type of fish we could be catching (or hopefully catching) will be like snapper, bream, whiting, flathead, jews or even kings. Will be using baits most of the time but may try flicking soft plastics or lures every now and then. I was thinking maybe spooling half the spool with mono then filling the other half with braid? or should I get all braid or all mono. Any advice or ideas will be appreciated. Regards 1800
Guest Guest123456789 Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Hello 1800, and welcome to fishraider! First off, good choice of rod and reel there. That's a great all rounder. Me personally(and it's not necessarily right), I'd spool it with 10lbs braid with about 16lbs fluro leader. I have caught whiting, bream right up to a 66cm King on this set up. You should never spool a reel with all braid. Reason being, braid slips against a metal surface, so your line would slip and you could not reel in the fish(no matter how tight the drag). You can either put electrical tape on your reel, or spool up some mono then add your braid as top shot. Personally I prefer some mono, this way I can buy less braid (125 metres instead of 250 metres). Make sure the mono is stronger than the braid. The easiest way to connect fluro or mono to braid is the Uni to uni knot. You need at least 10 turns on the braid side and 5 turns on the fluro or mono side. 2 metres of fluro leader should be enough, braid rubbing against rocks = snapped line. Fluro is also near invisible in water so the fish won't see a bright line connected to your bait and will be more likely to bite. There is a forum title 'braid vs mono' I suggest you look at that. Hope this helps! Good luck mate.

With the base level of mono for braid, should you put enough on to cover the metal of the spool or just fill it half way. Also how much braid is required to fill each spool
Guest Guest123456789 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 (edited) Thanks for the quick reply I had a look at the Mono Braid thread, it was very technical in regards to the type and make of braid. With the base level of mono for braid, should you put enough on to cover the metal of the spool or just fill it half way. Also how much braid is required to fill each spool I looked at the specs online, the capacity is 15lbs braid for 240 metres. Most tackle stores sell braid as either 125 metres or 250 metres, so I would buy 125 metres of 15lbs braid. Don't get the cheapest one there, got middle of the road at least (cheap braid you WILL rip and replace it sux!As a rough guide, the first third of the spool will hold half the line. So if the Danza spool diameter is 9cm, the first 3cm will hold roughly half the line. This equates half of the stated cazna 240metres (120). Therefore, use say 20lbs cheap mono (real cheap) and fill at least the first third of the spool. I'd even go close to half, as if you run out of braid you will lose casting distance as at the top of the spool there is effectively and edge and point of resistance for the braid to hit. So yeah, always spool of your reel all the way to the end. You will find after use the braid will tighten a little anyway. Edited January 17, 2016 by Guest123456789
Guest Guest123456789 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) Hi mate, I've not used it before. The Berkeley fireline is a good brand as too is anything Samaki. The expensive Jarvis walker is good (the cheap one ain't). Also I just noticed an error, the first TWO thirds of you spool will hold approx half your line. So if you're going to use braid as top shot fill the spool with approx two thirds mono then add braid. If it's too hard don't be afraid to just chuck a bit of electrical tape on your reel, and buy 250 metres of 15lbs braid and wind it all on. Also if there is too much braid on the spool you will get wind knots, so a 1mil gap will stop this while not adversely affecting your casting distance. Line twist is more a problem with light braid (less than 10lbs). Edited January 31, 2016 by Guest123456789
