Yowie Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Fished the deep off Lilli Pilli early for the tailor on pillies, plus a couple of just under size, but they were only on the bite for 10 minutes then gone. A flattie over the 50cm mark grabbed one of the pillies, on a 3 hook gang, but even with the hooks down it's gob, is still managed to spit out all the hooks and swim off beside the boat. A few bigger splashes away from the boat, might have been salmon or small kings, and many times I threw out a small metal lure beside the splashes, amongst the splashes and anywhere else I could cast, but not one touch from those fish. Moved to Maianbar flats and pumped some nippers in water deeper than knee height. Used a couple of nippers for those whiting, but only 3 bites for 3 fish. Moved around the different sand banks for hardly any bites, other than a couple of little whiting, just very quiet. Did not help having water skiers travelling over the shallow sand banks. Next month, the kids will be heading back to school, some of the workers returning to earn a dollar, and hopefully the boat traffic dropping off.
Fab1 Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Yet again you managed to snare yourself a great feed Yowie! That flatty must of been Houdini to be able to spit out a 3 hook gang. I don't blame you for wanting the waterways to quieten down either as those water skiers can get annoying at times, but hey we all need to share the waterways I guess. Cheers.
Yowie Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 Thank you guys. I don't mind sharing with others, fishos only one day, speed boats and water skiers the next day. Happy with that idea.
Krispy ! Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Nice bag there yowie, those splashes might've been frigate mackerel, saw some in the harbour yesterday.
DYMAN Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Nice catch mate, good to see Port Hacking still produces, I haven't fished it for years, must try it again one day soon.

Yowie Posted January 26, 2016 Author Posted January 26, 2016 you still managed a feed yowie A couple of feeds there Groper. Tailor last night, whiting fillets tomorrow night.

That is the second time (from memory) that I have watched a flattie shake out a 3 hook gang beside the boat.
mark_s Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Busy on the port today despite the rain this morning. Had boats whizzing passed me on top of the darook flats. The navigation channel is obviously recommend only. Made it bloody hard to flick lures around.

ChrisE Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 There are also a hell of a lot more jet ski's in Port Hacking than previous years. It's not as quiet there as it used to be.

Banned from some places so the f**kwits roar around Port Hacking instead, including 30 knots in a 4 knot zone, near swimmers and boaties. No respect for anyone else. And this is where I will end my comments, or the Mods will ban me.
