kevvie Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 hey chappies, Which crazy nutbags decided to go out fishing in thier boat on saturday? yeh i was one of em and my hats go off to you if you did too. The wind and waves only stood to prove who is the silliest and keenest amongst us. It goes without saying that we had trouble with the conditions in Botany from the outset. My uncle was taking his explorer trophy out for the second time and what a workout. We found out why v-nose boats were not designed for choopy seas... wet from head to toe we were. Drifting for flatties was near impossile with plastics as the current and wind were going in the same direction. We feared that anchoroing was going to sink us so we tried protected waters in Kogarah Bay for no result. Time to head back in... After we cleaned the boat and packed it away (about 5:30pm) i felt that i still had some fishing left in me. We decided to go to a wharf in the harbour and chase a jew if there were any about. After catching some yakkas lines were deployed and about 8:30 the first run came. Line was pouring from my baitrunner and i was sure the fish had engulfed the livie. Pull back, strike hard and all came tight... for about 2 seconds. Pulled the hooks About ten minutes later, George had a run on a yakka fillet aimed at the resident bream around the wharf. This run indicated something substantially bigger. The first call came "it's a stingray.. i can tell by the way it took off" george said. Then i retorted "it's gotta be a pike eel". But as the fight wore on we both new the tell tale throbs were from the mighty jew. On 9lb line this thing took about 20mins to land but the city could of heard the shouts afterwards. Just goes to show that persistance pays off...
Guest fishrunner Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Well done on the jew for george, persistance pays off! Any idication on the size?

kevvie Posted October 10, 2005 Author Posted October 10, 2005 sorry boys... the jew was only 6kg. But on light gear aimed at bream it took good skill and an awesome wingman (had to wrap myself for somethin) to clear lines and net the fish.
