Hairtail what about this idea

I was looking on youtube for hairtail and found this. They are fishing in Newcastle Harbor and look to be doing quite well has anyone thought of this idea jigging for them with a lure.

It was late afternoon and evening. Would save a lot on pilchards. Whats is the lure, I don't fish with this type of lure.

Just an idea to get $500 next year with very little outlay, if you think I am paddling my kayak to save on fuel forget it

Jigging for Hairtail is nothing new, I did it 30 years ago with some success, but generally the hairtail would have to be in a reasonably large group where they had to compete for food, these days it's just too hard work for my old bones to put that much energy into it, if you are young with plenty of energy, go for it.

I used to make my own zinc jigs similar to the old coffins.

I gave it a shot over the social a few times.

Problem is they need to be around when you're jigging otherwise you're just throwing metal around the ocean!

The lure is just a knife jig or vertical jig - 32g is what I used.

Basically a small version of the big jigs they use for kings.

The other thing in the video was a pilchard with the head cut off and a treble hook on a trace threaded though to the tail and attached to a swivel clip to the main line

Do you mean the wire is through the pillie something like a squid spike?
