Tuna hooks size

Hi guys,

With all this chat about tuna, I was wondering what size hooks people typically use? I have some mustad 34007 hooks (forged o'shaughnessy stainless steel 7/0) hooks but I'm worried they'll get pulled. should I be worried?

for me there a bit thin in the gauge something a bit thicker like some of the circles or hoodlums

but i suppose the 1st question i should have asked is this for bait or lures

This is for trolling skirts. I've got some 6" skirts.

Seems the 9/0 would be way too big.

For bait (cubing), I'm thinking of size 13/0 circle tuna hooks. Heavy gauge.

Yep. Main line is 80lb. Leader is 150lb.

i use the 8/0 and 6/0 for sharks on the vic beaches and have never had a 34007 fail yet and have been using them for 22 years

Yeh I was thinking of using it on big tuna if I get the chance. Fingers crossed

Im a newbie too, so more seeking advise on this topic than offering.......but a 6" skirt seems pretty small for 80 lb line or vise versa

I have a few 5" and 6" skirts,

Especially with the 5" skirts, I planned on using 15 kg pretest line, with 130 lb leader. I have actually rigged a couple (only 2 lures) with 80 lb fluro leader

Any thoughts
