Hey raiders im heading out to 12 mile and the peak on a mates boat on sunday and dont really know what to expect as ive never gone out that far off sydney before. Am i a realistic chance of yellowfin? Or am i better off jigging for kings and bottom bashing. Also what kind of fish can be encountered on the reef?

Thanks

You'll be getting calls from magazines everywhere if you get a yellowfin at the peak!

Jig for kings ;)

What other fish can be encountered at the peak, other than kingfish? Leather jackets :/

That's what me and katoe were using last time there. Obviously you need a mild current to hit bottom. We found just Ne of the peak 200m ish was best but worth a longer drift to find them)( sorry I'm not 100% on best times of year for them)

Others will have more experience than me on the kings but you will need to sound around for them. They are not necessarily right on top of the peak.

As said above, if you're looking for Kings its best to sound them out rather than jigging in the dark. You should see them where the bait stacks up.

In terms of bottom bashing, there are definitely plenty of species on offer and its quite a lucky dip. A few weeks ago we pulled kings, morwong, perch, nannygai, leatherjacket, snapper and pigfish. Standard paternoster with a suitable sinker will do the job.

Good luck!

Should be fine with a fairly low swell predicted.

If you are not familiar with 12 mile its a bonus if there are a few boats our there because the reef takes a bit of mapping out.

Good luck. Looking forward to reading the report.

Cheers
